Breast ReconstructionBreast reconstruction is one of the most gratifying surgical procedures that are available today. For no woman it has ever been easy to come to terms with the realization that her breast would need to be removed as a part or a medical treatment. Breast reconstruction surgery ensures that the woman does not have to face the trauma of having her breast removed, and because of the vast number of successful breast reconstruction examples, it is little wonder why these days most women do not fear treatments of diseases such as breast cancer. In fact after a disease such as breast cancer, breast cancer reconstruction can be conveniently opted for by the patients. Since reconstruction of breast with the help of modern devices and techniques ensures that the breast thus created closely resembles the natural form and appearance, one cannot even complain that after reconstruction, breast may start looking awkward or unnatural. Often surgeons may agree to immediate breast reconstruction, or what may be termed as breast reconstruction plastic surgery right after the mastectomy (breast removal). This helps in ensuring that the patient wakes up after her surgery to find the breast mound right in its place. For example, right after a treatment for breast cancer, breast reconstruction may follow, so that the circumstance of the patient finding herself without a breast can be totally avoided. However, like all other methods of plastic surgery, breast reconstruction is not an easy procedure. Surgical breast reconstruction is only possible after all necessary factors are properly understood, and various options are well considered. The exact procedure and as well as the final result of the breast “plastic” reconstruction surgery, varies greatly from patient to patient depending on various factors such as age, body type, etc. Therefore, it may be concluded that information on breast reconstruction can prove to be useful for the patients only as long as it is used for providing with the basic guidelines. It is only the surgeon who may be able to decide the course of the treatment for breast reconstruction patients. Also, it is not as if breast reconstruction is completely safe. Though in most cases, when breast reconstruction surgeries were performed after careful analysis of the patient, the treatments have been successful, there have been a number of successful cases as well. For example, there is always a possibility of the development of an infection, which may require a removal of the breast implant, till the infection subsides. Another example is that of the case of nicotine in-takers, who, because of their nicotine intake may find themselves recovering from the surgery much more lately than considered normal. There are various kinds of breast reconstruction implants that a doctor and the patient may choose from. For example one may decide to go for a bilateral breast reconstruction, using such a breast implant reconstruction technique that uses a silicone shell filled with the so called ‘silicone gel’, or maybe a silicone shell filled with the so called saline (that is a solution of salt water) See Also: |
