Lower Blepharoplasty Surgery

The patients, who have uneven or drooping eyelids, can be benefited by a certain type of procedure that is known as lower eyelid plastic surgery. As a person becomes old, he or she starts loosing tissue elasticity in and around the eyes, and as a result, this sagging creates an aged, tired appearance. Other factors like sun damage and heredity can also cause these changes.

Lower eye blepharoplasty helps in tightening the regions under the eyes, and by removing the excessive fat and skin it can give a much youthful look. With the help of under eyelid cosmetic surgery, wrinkle, fine lines or dark circles cannot be removed, but this surgery  can lift the drooping brow, increase the smoothness of forehead, give face-lift for sagging jaws, etc.

People are often more attracted to lower lid blepharoplasty, as this form of blepharoplasty lowers the puffiness from their eyes that is congenital. The lowering eyelid surgery is often combined with upper blepharoplasty. When combined with the upper blepharoplasty, the laser lower eyelid surgery gives a more youthful appearance to the eyes.

When a patient goes for a consultation, his surgeon discusses about the changes that the patient is going to experience. The surgeon at first explains the different procedures as well as the lower/upper eyelid surgery complications. The first step for a surgeon is to examine the skin around the eyes, and then he/she examines the tear ducts, eye vision and peripheral vision. The patient should inform the surgeon about his different symptoms like dryness of the eyes or eye pain. He should also inform the surgeon about his circulatory disorders, thyroid problems, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, or any other serious disorders.

In the traditional lower blepharoplasty, the cuts are made along the smile creases and lash lines. Here, the excessive fats, skin and muscles are firmly removed. Very minute stitches are made to close the cuts and these are usually removed within three to five days of the lower eye Blepharoplasty.

The under eyelid surgery usually takes one to three hours for completion and mainly depends on the different types of techniques used, and the various complications of the patient. Lower eyelid blepharoplasty is performed either in a hospital or in a movable surgical suite. The recoverable time for eye blepharoplasty varies from one patient to another.

Initially, the surgery is performed using a local anesthesia that may help in recovering within seven to ten days. After the surgery, the patient may feel a tight sensation in and around the operational areas, for which a pain-killer can be prescribed. The stitches are removed after the first week of surgery. The discoloration and swelling attars fading out gradually and the person starts to look and feel better.

Though lower blepharoplasty complications are infrequent, it cannot be denied that there is always a chance of developing infections or facing complications due to anesthetic reactions. Some other potential lower eyelid surgery complications include unclear vision, dryness in the eyes, etc. However, these complications are generally not much of a matter of concern, and can be easily treated.
