Blepharoplasty RecoveryOnce the surgery is completed, eyelid surgery recovery is the main concern for every patient. The standard recovery from eyelid surgery after the blepharoplasty takes about two-three weeks to about one month. After this time, patients are allowed to resume all their normal activities. At first, the incisions that are formed from the surgery remain bumpy and somewhat red and there remains a constant mild pain after the operation. In the Blepharoplasty recovery process, most people opt for pain meditation for about three days but sometimes the medication is not required because this pain goes away by itself. A patient should take suggestions from his surgeon regarding recovering from eyelid surgery before taking any medication. The stitches that are done during the surgical process are mostly removed within the first week. The discoloration and the swelling are very common during this period of recovery from eyelid surgery. Still, as the days pass, the discoloration and the swelling in and around the eyes gradually abate, and the patient starts looking and feeling much better than before. The bruising mainly disappears from the eyes within seven to ten days. One may also experience the so called ‘blepharoplasty itchy recovery’, as the eyes may sometimes experience burning and itching. For this, the surgeon may advice his or her patient to use eye-drops so that it may minimize the discomfort. The vision of the operated person remains unclear for few or more days. The eyes become very sensitive towards light but it is only temporary and as a result, the person may face the excess dryness or tearing. The patients are also advised to avoid any such activity that may cause excess dryness of eyes. Such activities mostly include reading, using a computer, and watching television. Doctors tend to strictly advice against such activities during the patient’s recovery from eyelid operation. Again, too much blinking should be avoided as it results in increasing the swelling. One is also expected to wear dark sunglasses for at least one month for the protection of eyes from wind and sun. The UV rays of the sun are particularly harmful to the patient’s eyes and besides causing irritation; it may also damage the eyes greatly. Contact lenses should also not be worn for some time, though the glasses may be worn immediately. In fact doctors may ask the person to wear glasses throughout the day. For a successful recovery from laser surgery on eyelid cyst, the patient should apply very light ice packs or frozen peas in plastic bags over his eyes continuously for about first forty-eight hours. For faster recovering from eyelid surgery, one should strictly avoid alcohol as it causes fluid retention which delays the recovery. During the recovery of upper eyelid surgery, the eyelids sometimes get stuck together and swollen. This can be treated by carefully cleaning the eyelashes with warm water on the Q-tip. Sometimes crusting beside the eyelashes and oozing within the incision lines is normal in the lower eyelid surgery recovery. |
