Blepharoplasty (Eyelid) Surgery Scars

Patients who opt for a blepharoplasty, are often taken aback to find a scar and feel ‘betrayed’ if they had not been warned beforehand. When a person goes for the surgery, with hopes of having their looks improved, and ends up with a scar post Blepharoplasty operation, it may seem to the patients to have done them more harm than good. However, what most people fail to understand is the fact that a blepharoplasty scar does not tend to show much, and eventually fades out to such an extent that it is presence may never be noticed.

Blepharoplasty scars tend to appear pink in color for about six months following the surgery. It is during this time that the scar is most visible. However, with time, the scar tends to diminish gradually. However, people often tend to feel that because of the hyper pigmentation scars, cosmetic eyelid surgery does not appear to be of great benefit to them. Therefore, in order to speed up the process of healing blepharoplasty scars, one may try using the various scar reducing creams and lotions that are available these days.  To have the eyelid surgery scar diminish more rapidly, these can be used quite benefit. However, it is always advisable, that the patient consults the surgeon before taking any such step. The doctor would be able to not only judge if such a measure should be taken or not, but he may also advice the patient on how to use the products for best results.

Though is inevitably true that blepharoplasty scars and blackens the skin around the eyes (in many cases), because of the development in scientific techniques, avoiding scarring after eyelid surgery is now becoming a reality. It is quite a new process, and there are quite a few surgeons who are confident about performing scar-less blepharoplasty.

Cosmetic eyelid surgery scars that appear right after the operation are generally quite visible initially. Blepharoplasty scarring occurs around the area where the surgery has taken place. For instance, in case of a lower eyelid surgery, blepharoplasty scars may appear just below the lower eyelashes, all around the natural skin folds near the eyes (marking the area affected by the operation.).

Though in a blepharoplasty operation, developing a scar is natural and is not a matter of much concern. In certain cases it has been found that following blepharoplasty, heavy scarring has also taken place for some patients. It is when heavy scarring takes place that the matter needs to be taken much seriously. Not only do these scars take longer to fade away, these scars may also show a tendency to ultimately diminish to a lesser extent. Often such scars may reflect upon serious matters such as wrong surgical procedures followed by a doctor. This may also be observed in a patient if he or she is genetically prone to developing more scars. In such cases, scar revision may be considered as a good option.
