Lasik Eye Surgery Complications

As with any surgery lasik eye surgery complications are also not unheard of. Lasik eye surgery complications are usually of short period though long term complications also exists.

Some very common lasik eye surgery complications are haziness of vision, hallowing of night vision, and glaring during night. These lasik eye surgery complications are of short term and can be very easily corrected by use of corrective lenses or contact lenses. After some time with proper rest the vision becomes normal and these corrective lenses can be removed. Laser eye surgery problems also include drying of cornea. Usually the cornea is always kept moist so that the eye can move about. This is achieved by secreting water from the lacriminal sack and blinking the eye frequently. Some times due to laser eye surgery the natural moistening may stop. This is a temporary lasik complication, and usually taken care by liquid medication prescribed by the doctor to keep the cornea moist. Infection is also associated as one of the lasik eye surgery complications and is treated with antibiotic or anti inflammatory eye drops prescribed by the doctor. These were some not so serious lasik eye surgery complications.

Some more serious lasik eye surgery complications are dislocation of the corneal flap, overcorrection, undercorrection, epithelial ingrowths. The lasik eye surgery is usually done by removing a flap from the cornea and again replacing it after the surgery. Sometimes this flap gets dislocated or gets crumpled when placed in its place.  This creates a very serious lasik eye surgery complication. This lasik eye surgery complication can only be corrected by lasik eye surgery enhancement surgery or re-treatment. Another laser eye surgery complication is over correction or under correction. When the vision correction is less than what was expected as told by the doctor then it is either overcorrection or under correction of the vision. This lasik eye surgery complication is taken care by re-treating the eye or if the correction is minor ten it is corrected by using lenses. This lasik eye surgery complication can be attributed to incorrect diagnosis by the doctor or lack of correct setting in the software which controls the laser. Conductive keratoplasty may be used to take care of this lasik eye surgery complication and thus sharpening the vision. Epithelial ingrowths also occur as a lasik eye surgery complication. But this complication is now almost eliminated due to newer technologies. But in spite of these lasik eye surgery complications the success rate of laser eye surgery is very high. These lasik eye surgery complications are about 1% of the total number of patients operated. Avoiding these lasik eye surgery complications can be achieved by selecting the right eye surgeon and screening yourself for the lasik eye surgery. This screening is usually carried out by the eye surgeon. If your eye or health is not suitable for lasik surgery then lasik eye surgery complication may arise after the surgery and hence the doctor forbids you from the surgery.

Summary
So though there are lasik eye surgery complications still the success rate of the lasik surgery masks the complications. The minor lasik eye surgery complications are temporary in nature and are usually curable by time and medicine and the more serious ones are corrected by re-treating the eye.
