Abdominal Liposuction

Liposuction is a procedure that can be carried out on any part of the body where there is excess fat accumulation.  When liposuction is done on the abdomen it is called abdominal liposuction.  Liposuction involves removal of fat from the area just below the skin or in deeper area by the means of a thin hollow tube.  This thin hollow tube is known as the cannula.  The cannula is used by the surgeon for a number of purposes.  He can use the cannula for pumping fluid into the area in wet liposuction or tumescent technique.  In both these techniques fluid needs to be pumped into the area to dissolve the fatty tissues.  The cannula is then used to agitate the fatty tissues loosening them up and making them ready for draining.

It is through the cannula that the fluid is lastly drained out. When making use of the ultrasound for liposuction (ultrasound assisted liposuction), the cannula is fitted with a device at its end.  This device is the one that produces the ultrasound; and it is with the help of this device that the fatty tissues are agitated.

During the process of abdominal liposuction most plastic surgeons advice that one should get a tummy tuck or abdominoplasty done along with liposuction of the abdomen.  This will give better results as the loose skin that is going to hang after the abdominal liposuction is tightened and the muscles are seen.  The abdominal liposuction is also known as wrinkled stomach liposuction.

Abdominal liposuction should not be considered as an alternative to any other forms of treatment like weight reduction.  This is only a surgical procedure to remove fat.  In case you are doing exercises, you should continue them along with dieting to keep you body weight under control.  The pockets of fat that are removed with the help of surgery are the ones that cannot be removed by any amount of dieting and exercises.

Ultrasound assisted abdominal liposuction is a new technique and can be used effectively for removal of fat from localized areas.  Fatty tissues are broken up with the help of ultrasound leading to less loss of blood and no damage to the nearby organs.  This is useful when carrying out liposuction of the abdomen because; an inexperienced surgeon is more likely to cause   damage to organs like the liver, kidneys and the lungs.

After an abdominal ultrasound the patient should wear an abdominal binder.  This is to contain swelling if there is any.  The patient will also experience numbness in the area followed by pin in the surrounding area.  Recovery from an abdominal liposuction is the most difficult as this involves the abdomen muscles.

Summary:
Abdominal liposuction is one of the most favored and carried out procedures in the United States.  This has mushroomed the beginning of small clinics that would carry out a tummy tuck and abdominal liposuction for a meager amount.  But before you put yourself in the hands of these plastic surgeons consider if it is worth the risk.
