Leg Liposuction

Liposuction is a part of a plastic surgical procedure which involves removal of fat from the body.  This is done by the means of a thin hollow tube that is inserted in the body at the places where the fat needs to be drained out.  Small incisions are made on the skin and the tube called the cannula is inserted carefully into the region where the fat is lying.  Then the fat is drained out by the help of the same tube.

The same procedure can be done with the help of different techniques and based on the techniques; the duration of the procedure may vary along with cost and comfort.

When carrying out liposuction of the leg, the areas that are generally covered includes the thighs, calves, knees and ankles.  For people who not exercised for a long time and had a lot of fatty foods to consume, fat gets accumulated in the region of the knees and ankles; this makes movement difficult.  Fat otherwise also accumulates in the thighs and the calves for the common man, people who have done their part of exercises but have not paid attention to the region of the thighs and calves. The thighs are the highly misused part of the body for fat accumulation after the abdomen by the body.  Burning up fat that has accumulated here needs high amount of dedication while carrying out exercises.  The only other alternative to this is liposuction of the thighs or liposuction of the legs.

Liposuction of the thighs or liposuction of the legs is done in almost the same way as liposuction is done to any other part of the body.  A local incision is made in the region where fat needs to be drained out and the cannula is inserted here.  The techniques used may be the dry liposuction, wet liposuction, super wet liposuction or the tumescent liposuction.  Depending on the type of technique used, the duration of the surgery may differ.  Generally a liposuction of the legs may last from one hour to four hours.  For a liposuction of the calves or for a liposuction of the ankles it may take a shorter duration of time if it is being done only there.

Fat removal may be done physically by the doctor by moving the cannula around the fatty tissues there by agitating the fat and then draining them out or he could use power tool for moving the cannula.  The latest developments are the use of ultrasonic for the liposuction of the thighs / calves / knees.  In some cases, the cannula has a pizo electric crystal at the end which creates the ultrasonic waves there by agitating the fat.  In other cases the surgeon may prefer to give ultrasound from out side on the skin in the area locally.

As this is a liposuction of the leg, the doctor can go in for local anesthesia and feed an IV line to stabilize the patient to compensate the loss of body fluid.

After the procedure the patient may be required to wear a binder to contain the swelling.  He / she can walk out of the clinic after the procedure on the same day.  However, after a liposuction of the legs there are some precautions that need to be followed for post op care.

Summary:
Leg Liposuction is one of the best-preferred and safe procedures for trying out a liposuction.  After this one can see what differences one feels to agree to go in for liposuction of other parts of the body.
