Liposuction Procedures

With the advancement in technology and methods of conducting plastic surgical procedures, there have been various developments in the way liposuction procedures can be carried out on a person.  However, it may be restricted to the age of the patient and the surgeon who is conducting the liposuction procedure.  Most modern techniques involve using high end equipment and these equipments are quite costly.  With liposuction being within the reach of the common man, most prefer to do a liposuction procedure that would cost them less and at the same time is safe and effective.

The types of liposuction procedures depend on the equipments used and the techniques used.  The techniques are the dry liposuction, wet liposuction, super wet liposuction and the tumescent liposuction.  In conjunction with this the cannula may differ along with the process of removal of fat.  One (the surgeon) can agitate the fat with his hand or he could use a motorized device or he could make use of ultrasound.  In the ultrasonic liposuction procedure there are two types, the ultrasound can be applied from the inside and from the outside (on the skin).  Both of this can agitate the fat.  When using ultrasound on the inside, the cannula is having a tip that is fitted with a crystal that can produce the ultrasound.  This is safer as the ultrasound is produced locally and this agitates the fat to be removed. This is one of the new liposuction procedures.

To describe how liposuction does work exactly, the procedure is as follows; the area to be cleared of fat is clearly marked and the patient is given an anesthesia depending on the place where liposuction is required.  More often than not a local anesthesia is preferred and the patient is given general sedation.  The general sedation is only given so that the patient is not agitated after seeing things flowing off his / her body.

Small incisions measuring almost one third of an inch is made and the cannula is inserted into the body / area where the liposuction needs to be carried out.  Till here, all liposuction procedures are the same, after this if dry liposuction needs to be carried out, the doctor slowly moves the cannula around loosening up the fat and breaking up the fatty tissues.  In a wet method small amount of a fluid is pumped into the area locally.  For super wet technique almost equal amount of fluid to the fat to be removed is pumped into the body.  In a tumescent liposuction technique, the fluid that is pumped into a body is almost three times in quantity to the fat to be removed.  In the wet techniques, the fluid is retained for some time in the body to loosen up the fatty cells possibly for an hour or so.  Then the suctioning process starts.  This is done with the help of a pump called the aspirator.  This draws the fluid along with the fatty tissues into a collector.  The incision is then stitched up or left open for the fluid to drain for a couple of days.  After the liposuction procedure, the patient will be required to wear a binder to contain swelling.

Summary:
The liposuction procedure however complicated or simple that it sounds or feels one will be confidant only when one is entrusted in to the hands of an expert in the field.  So follow instincts and reputation before leaping.
