Liposuction

Liposuction is a method by which one can remove fat and excess body fluids from parts of the body by the means of surgery.  This is a part of plastic surgery, as it entails contouring the shape of the body to meet specific requirements.

Liposuction is never an alternative to dieting and exercise.  One should not resort to this as a shortcut to get a body shape.  The side effects that are caused due to liposuction are many and there has never been side effects caused due to exercising or dieting.  Not everybody’s body will suit liposuction but almost everybody can do exercises.  There have been cases where liposuction surgery has gone wrong.  This could be the result of either the anesthesia or any related drugs that the patient has been taking which he / she has not disclosed.  A heart condition is also likely to cause a liposuction go wrong.

Further the amount of fat that is being removed from your body by liposuction will depend on the doctor, your health and various other factors. Even after carrying out liposuction, most of the patients feel quite uneasy after the surgery.  They will take some time to adapt to their body and for the body to adapt to the loss of fat the unnatural way.

Liposuction surgery can be done at any clinic but it would be advisable to get it done from a doctor who is a registered plastic surgeon.   Before the plastic surgery he will be able to consul you on what to expect and what you should do after the operation.  The precautions that need to be taken before a plastic surgery like liposuction and the care that needs to be followed after the operation are clearly outlined by your doctor.

Though liposuction has been classified as a cosmetic plastic surgery, there have been cases where liposuction was medically advised to be done on a patient to make survival possible.  It was done due to the enormous amount of fat accumulation in different parts of the body.  Large volume liposuction cannot be done at one go and is generally performed in steps; during this period or interval of liposuction, the patient recovers from the earlier state, re-stabilizes and is ready for the second procedure.
Liposuction has refined over the years, first done in 1926, the recent splurge in to the medical arena took place in the 1990’s.  Now modern methods are being used to aid in removal of fat like ultrasound.  This involves the use of a hollow tube called the cannula through which the fat is drained after pumping in the fluid which is used for diluting the fat.  The draining in most cases is aided with the help of an aspirator.  This is nothing but a suction pump.

Summary:
Liposuction can be done to any part of the body; this can make one look good and feel good. But it can never be an alternative for exercises and dieting.  For the health conscious person, there is no liposuction.
