Abdominoplasty Complications

We all have an idea as to what Abdominoplasty is, just for those of you who have come in late, Abdominoplasty is a surgical procedure that is done to remove excess body fat and body fluids from the area around the abdomen to give a clean flat tummy look with those six pack showing through.

Though Abdominoplasty / tummy tuck / mini Abdominoplasty / mini tummy tuck is a simple procedure, there are certain complications that will result if procedures are not followed and if certain conditions exists in a patient desirous of undergoing Abdominoplasty / tummy tuck / mini Abdominoplasty / mini tummy tuck plastic surgery. 

The first and foremost being before one is likely to undergo an Abdominoplasty operation it is necessary that she / he stops smoking for a period of minimum of two months before the surgery.  The same stands with post operative care.  Smoking is prohibitive for a period of six weeks after the operation. 

People suffering from diabetics should avoid under going Abdominoplasty / tummy tuck / mini Abdominoplasty / mini tummy tuck; recovery for such people is difficult as the scar is not likely to heal quickly leading to infections and further complications due to Abdominoplasty.

Last but not the least people with heart complications need to be carefully monitored after the operation and also during the operation.  There are certain people who take certain anti coagulant drugs for the heart condition that they are suffering from.  Based on how serious their condition is they should slowly taper off from taking this kind of drugs before the operation.  The patient undergoing the operation should be free from the anti coagulant drugs for a minimum period of two weeks before the operation.  If this is not done then there is a good chance that the patient may go into a coma due to excessive bleeding. 

Wound complication of Abdominoplasty in obese people are likely to be more than for people with normal weight who just want to get their skin corrected and tightened. They are psychological and as well as physical.  They would require more counseling about the tummy tuck complications and related disorders.  

Complications of tummy tuck that a person is likely to have range from general swelling, numbness and discomfort.  However these are things that are generally experienced and would go away with time.   Other post operative complications include blood clots and infections.  These can be treated by antibiotics.  To avoid the complications related to blood clotting, it is necessary that the patient moves around after the operation as soon as possible.  Other post operative complications are opening of the wound from the inside; this is caused if you do not follow the surgeon’s instructions for post operative care.  You may have been advised to move around, but do not lift weights and do other strenuous activity.  This is going to cause grievous injury and may cause tummy tuck bleeding under the flap of skin.
