Abdominoplasty Procedure

More commonly known as tummy tuck it is a procedure that involves removal of fat and excess / loose skin from the walls of the lower and middle abdomen for giving a person the look that she / he desires.
As with all surgical procedures Abdominoplasty does have its complications but then with the modern science of today this has been brought down to a minuscule scale that the risks are almost negligible.  The scar that is left after the Abdominoplasty operation is almost invisible.

Before going in for the Abdominoplasty procedure, you should study to see if you can get Abdominoplasty done on you.  First and foremost, you should not be having any other medical related complications; this increases your chances of further complications when you get an Abdominoplasty done.  Complications like diabetics, heart problems, blood clotting problems and kidney problems are things that you should not be suffering from to get and Abdominoplasty done.

Talk to your doctor and let him tell you on what you should expect after the Abdominoplasty operation.  Try to be realistic about your goals of body shape, by just an operation you cannot be your Hollywood idol.

In a full Abdominoplasty, first the skin that needs to be removed is marked.  This runs from hip to hip.  The incision that is made is from hip to hip.  After the incision is made, the skin flap is lifted up to reveal the fat tissues lying below the skin.  The excess fat tissues are identified and they are removed.  The umbilical cord attachment is severed and the skin is stretched down.  In some cases the navel needs to be re-made and placed in a position just above the abdomen area for cosmetic purposes.  The excess skin is then trimmed to the required dimensions and they are stretched across your belly / abdomen.  This is then sutured with the lower part of the skin.  Though described briefly, this procedure takes about five to six hours depending on the patient and the amount of fat / fluid that needs to be removed or drained.

During the process, if one has opted for liposuction also, then liposuction is also done along with Abdominoplasty procedure.  This involves removing of fat from located pockets in the body.  Fluid three times the volume of the fat is pumped in to the pocket region by a cannula and after a short waiting period when the fat is dissolved with the fluid, this is again drained out by the cannula.  The thighs and the upper abdomen are easily accessed through the incision made for carrying out Abdominoplasty.

The mini Abdominoplasty procedure is a shorter procedure.  It can be done in a time span of two to three hours.  This procedure entails the same removal of fat and tightening of the skin.  However the incision that is made here is a smaller incision and it is just above the pubic region.  The excess skin that is hanging there is tightened and the connection with the navel has inside with the umbilical cord is severed to stretch the skin down.

Summary:
This covers the procedure that is required to be done for Abdominoplasty, liposuction and a mini Abdominoplasty.  Either one can go in for the Abdominoplasty procedure alone or a combination pack of both.
