Abdominoplasty Recovery

Abdominoplasty is a surgical procedure of removing excess body fat from the abdomen and this includes draining of the body fluid (liposuction) too on some cases.  The combined procedure in some cases is known as tummy tuck.

As with any surgery, there is basically a recovery period for such cases.  This is known as the post operative period.  Again the Abdominoplasty recovery period can be divided into two periods, one the recovery period where the patient is requiring bed rest and the other recovery period after Abdominoplasty where the patient does not require bed rest but needs to be careful when doing certain activities and he / she should follow up with medication.

The recovery period for any surgery is between 12 – 14 days, the period required for a wound to heal.  Here the case is almost the same as with the recovery time for tummy tuck, the patient is advised to take bed rest for a period of 14 days.  After this period the patient can walk around his house and also go in for work if he / she are not involved in strenuous activity during the course of his / her work.  The Abdominoplasty recovery and results could widely depend on the time that you give your body to recuperate.

During the Abdominoplasty recovery period, he / she may wear a belt that will help in support of the abdomen. This belt is also known as an abdominal binder.  For patients who had suffered from complications, the recovery may be a bit longer; complications like diabetics may need extra care for recovery from a full Abdominoplasty.

However, the tummy tuck recovery time varies from patient to patient in-spite of both the patients being healthy adults.  The reason to this can be contributed to the fact that people who ha more fat / fluid removed from their body require more time to recover after a tummy tuck than people who had less to remove from their body.

For people who had to undergo muscular repair to correct their problem, the recovery from this type of Abdominoplasty may be a bit longer and they may have to wear supports to contain any swelling.  Most patients have to take oral medications for a few days after post operative Abdominoplasty to help them aid in the recovery process.

In the case of a mini tummy tuck or a mini Abdominoplasty operation, the recovery period is even lesser.  A patient can literally walk out after the operation, provided she / he are healthy.  But anyway it is advised to take bed rest at least for a couple of days and avoid lifting heavy objects for a couple of weeks after the Abdominoplasty operation otherwise this may result in Abdominoplasty complications.

Summary:
For people who fear the recovery process, there are a number of Abdominoplasty recovery stories that are available off the internet.  They are welcome to listen to them and decide for themselves whether they consider this a painful process or not.
